Echocardiograms (ECHO scans) examine the overall health of your heart. Using the latest ultrasound technology, our specialists are able to generate live scans to determine the efficacy of your heart’s pump, health of your heart valves and identify areas of weakness. This non-invasive procedure can also screen for any potential heart abnormalities and early disease caused by environmental or genetic factors in younger asymptomatic patients.

How are ECHOs performed?

At the beginning of your appointment, your clinician will ask you to lift or remove your top before applying a cold gel to your chest. They will gently place the ultrasound probe in various positions to generate quality scans of your heart. The average length of an ECHO scan is between 15 and 30 minutes.

Who are ECHOs for?

Through early detection and regular monitoring, an echocardiogram gives you the power to screen for heart disease before the long-term effects become too detrimental. As many patients with underlying heart diseases may have no symptoms, we recommend most patients above 60 have an ECHO.

We would recommend ECHOs for:

  • Worsening shortness of breath
  • Longstanding leg swelling
  • Palpitations
  • Episodes of collapse or near collapse
  • A Family history of heart disease or collapse
